The University of Toronto Varsity Blues softball team will hit the road this coming weekend for the Ontario University Softball Championship scheduled to take place from Oct. 20-22 at Peter Lavoie Diamonds in Paris, Ont.
The Blues earned the top seed in the East division after finishing in first place with a 16-4 regular season record. Toronto will match up in the first round of the double-elimination format championship with the OUS West fourth-seeded Brock Badgers. Brock saw an up-and-down campaign, finishing 11-9, but were also one of only three teams to hand the Blues a loss this season.
Toronto has been dynamic at the plate this fall, scoring a total of 147 runs through the 20 games played, averaging over seven runs scored per game. The Blues have also shown an ability to carry momentum, registering a 13-game winning streak between Sept. 16 and Oct. 1.

Meanwhile, Toronto saw six players record 10 or more RBI, with the quartet of Amanda DeConinck, Amelia Collett, Madison Mattar, and Lauren Greco all tying for a team-high 12 RBI.
Shifting to the pitching circle, the Blues were led by second-year pitcher Joely Ma, who finished the regular season with a 6-0 record, pitching 37 total innings with 22 strikeouts and a 1.14 ERA.
Not limited to a single strong arm, the trio of Julia Lacaria, Olivia Mather, and Zoe Goldberg each surpassed 20 innings pitched this fall, with both Lacaria and Mather also reaching 20-plus strikeouts.
Toronto will be looking to return to the podium for the first time since a provincial bronze in 2015.
