Toronto got off to a hot start outshooting the Mustangs 14-2 in the opening frame. The Blues were rewarded for their hard work late in the period after third-year defender Olivia Hilton intercepted a Western pass before entering the offensive zone and beating Western goalie Ella Brabrook high to give the Blues a 1-0 lead.
Early in the second period Western got the equalizer thanks to a power play goal from Adeline Kristoff but the Blues responded quickly. On the next faceoff, fourth-year forward Natasha Athanasakos won the draw to captain Taylor Trussler who gave the Blues the lead four seconds after Western tied it.
In the third period the Blues penalty kill went four for four before Athanasakos' empty net goal with less than one second remaining, icing the game for Toronto
