ALEXANDER BACKSTOPS MEN’S HOCKEY IN WIN OVER TMU

In the first edition of the Battle of Toronto, Jett Alexander made 43 saves in the Varsity Blues men's hockey team 3-1 win over the TMU Bold on Thursday (Oct. 12) night at Varsity Arena.

With the win, the Blues hand the TMU Bold their first loss of the season and sit in first place in the OUA West division.

It was a hot start for the Blue and White, with third-year forward Owen Robinson scoring four minutes into the period. With the goal, Robinson leads the team with three.

Midway through the second period, after the Bold turned over the puck at the blue line, Cole Purboo passed the puck over to forward Nick Wong who put one past TMU goalie Kai Edmonds. Late in the second, the Bold would get on the board with a goal from Daniil Grigorev.

It was a quiet third period for both teams and Alexander and Edmonds held the door shut for their respective teams. Blues forward Billy Moskal added the insurance marker for Toronto on an empty net with 14 seconds remaining.

The Blues now make their way to Princeton, New Jersey where they will face off against the Princeton Tigers in an exhibition match on Saturday, Oct. 14.
