The Varsity Blues women's hockey team shut out the York Lions, 3-0, on Friday (Jan. 6) night at Varsity Arena.
With the win, the Blues hold a 12-2-0-0 record, and remain in first place in the OUA East division.
WHAT HAPPENED:Â The Blues defence was on point in the first period, holding the Lions to a mere two shots. Second-year forward Olivia Hilton opened the scoring for the Blues on the power play five minutes into the first, after redirecting a Natasha Athanasakos wrist shot.Â

Second-year forward Sophie Grawbarger doubled the Blues lead five minutes into the second period while on a 2-on-0 with forward Nikki McDonald. Grawbarger would add her second of the game on the powerplay 10 minutes later as she buried a Lauren MacDonnell rebound.Â
The third period was quiet for both teams as the Blues and Lions were held scoreless. This game also saw the return of the Blues captain Taylor Trussler, who had yet to play this season due to injury.Â
Blues goalie Madeline Albert made 12 saves through the 60 minutes, grabbing her third shutout of the season.Â
UP NEXT:Â The Varsity Blues return to action Sunday, January 8 when they face off against the Nipissing Lakers at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m.
