Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team defeated the TMU Bold 3-2 (25-15, 19-25, 25-10, 24-26, 15-13) in exhibition action on Tuesday (Jan. 3) evening at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
TORONTO STATS: The Blues were led by second-year outside hitter Julia Murmann, who registered 16 kills, three aces and an assisted block for 19.5 points, while also adding 13 digs on the night.
Fourth-year outside hitter Hope Kotun finished the game with 16.5 points and a game-high 14 digs.
Jenna Peters and Jasmine Safar split setting duties, tallying 17 and 30 assists, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues came out strong in the first set, building a 13-5 lead before taking the it 25-15. Toronto would open the second set with an 8-3 lead, but the Bold would battle back to take a 17-15 lead. TMU continued their comeback in the second half of the set, ultimately winning 25-19.
U of T quickly established a 12-4 lead and didn't look back, holding the Bold to six more points and taking the third set 25-10. A back-and-forth fourth set saw the Blues take a 22-16 lead, but the Bold would mount another comeback, winning the fourth set 26-24. In the fifth and deciding set, the Blues and Bold continued to battle with the Bold taking an early 8-7 lead, but the Blues would take the set 15-13.
UP NEXT: The Blues resume regular season play this coming weekend as they face off against the Guelph Gryphons at Goldring Centre.
