The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Brock Badgers on Friday night (Jan. 27) at Canada Games Park.
With the loss, the Blues remain in fifth place in the OUA West division with 24 points and an 11-9-2 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The first period started off on a heated note with the Badgers Jacob Roach taking less than a minute to open the scoring. The rest of the period was full of intense back-and-forth play. Second-year Blues goaltender Jett Alexander made eight key saves to send the Blues into intermission trailing by one.
At the beginning of the second, the Blues were as ready as ever to even it out. Only five minutes in, the rookie forward Nicholas Wong scored, burying a rebound on the powerplay. Just as the second period was about to end in a tie, Frank Pucci regained the Badgers' lead with one second remaining in the powerplay.
After a back-and-forth third period, the Badgers added an empty-netter to round out the win.
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow (Jan. 28) as they face off against the TMU Bold at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. Puck drop is set for 4:15 p.m.
