Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

BLUES EDGED OUT BY LIONS

After the lead changed hands four times, the Varsity Blues men's hockey team were edged out 4-3 by the York Lions on Thursday (Jan. 19) night at Varsity Arena.

With the loss, the Blues sit sixth in the OUA West division with 22 points and a 10-8-2 record.

WHAT HAPPENED: The Blues started the game strong, taking the lead within the first two minutes with second-year defencemen Emmett Serensits scoring his first of the season. Brendan Browne tied up the game for the Lions three minutes later.

After a back-and-forth first half of the second period, Blues rookie forward Jacob King cleaned up in the crease, scoring his first OUA goal with five minutes remaining. But the Blues lead would not last long with Lions forward Brock McLeod scoring thirty seconds later.

The Lions grabbed their first lead of the game five minutes into the third period with a goal from Benjamin Evanish. But the Blues would come storming back with a goal of their own from Cole Purboo a couple minutes later. The Lions would score the final goal of the game with just under five minutes to go after Brendan Browne potted his second of the game.

Blues starting goalie Jett Alexander finished the game with 30 saves through the 60 minutes.
