The Varsity Blues men's soccer team beat the Trent Excalibur 3-1 on Saturday (Sept. 24) afternoon in Peterborough.
The Blues now have a 2-1-2 record with eight points. They currently sit fourth in the OUA East division.
The Blues opened the scoring in the 16
th minute with a penalty shot from forward Stefano Capano. Prior to the penalty, Trent defender Nathan Urquhart received a red card, leaving Trent with 10 men. The Blues would add a second goal five minutes later from captain Artem Tesker.
Trent would slash the Blues lead in half just before the end of the first half ('43). In the 69
th minute, Trent goalie Evan McLeod would receive Trent's second red card of the game, leaving Trent with nine players on the pitch.
The Blues would score the lone goal in the second half to extend their led to two, coming from first-year defender Patrik Gelezniunas ('73).
Goalkeeper Ben Grondin finished the game with three saves.
The Blues finished the game with five shots on target. Capano had a team high three shots on net.
The Varsity Blues return to action Sunday, September 25 when they faceoff against the Carleton Ravens at Varsity Stadium. Kick off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
