The Varsity Blues defeated the Brock Badgers 3-1 on Friday (Mar. 11), gaining plenty of momentum heading to the OUA playoffs.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Brock wasted no time getting on the board as Justin Brack put a one-timer away past the blocker of Blues goalie Alex Bishop. The Badgers put the pressure on the Blues throughout the first period, firing 15 shots on goal compared to Toronto's six.
In the second period, the Blues would score two goals in a mere seven seconds to take the lead. Billy Moskal set up Cole Purboo on a two-on-one opportunity for the first, and would also assist on the second goal, setting up Ross Kreiger. Krieger's goal would be his sixth of the year and what would turn out to be the game-winning goal.
The Badgers were attempting to make a third-period comeback with nine shots in the frame, but the Alex Bishop and the Blues defence held them off. Second-year forward Peyton Reeves would ice the game for the Blues as he would put in an empty-net goal in the dying seconds.
Alex Bishop earned the win on this night, turning away 37 of Brock's 38 shots.
UP NEXT: With the late-season surge, the Blues are headed to the playoffs as the second seed in the OUA west division, and overall, the third seed in the west conference. Toronto will host an OUA quarter-final matchup this week. For playoff scheduling updates, check varsityblues.ca.
