Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

BLUES COME UP SHORT AGAINST RAMS

Heading a couple of kilometers east, the Toronto Varsity Blues paid a visit to the Rams on February 25. Although they were able to out-shoot the Rams 33-30, it was the home side skating away with a 5-1 victory at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The early game script was flipped on the Blues Friday night. Having made a habit of scoring early in their games since the restart, this time they found themselves giving up the opening goal just over two minutes into the contest on a Chris Playfair marker. Before the period expired the Rams would go on to extend their lead to two, thanks to Kyle Bollers' ninth goal of the season.

Looking to establish some momentum of their own, the Blues came out in the second period trying to force the play towards the Rams zone. Even with their pressure, Toronto was forced to settle for nothing more than hitting a couple of posts. The Rams then switched the pressure back on to the Blues. Getting goals from Joe Rupoli and Ryan Wells, the home side struck twice in a little over three minutes to build a 4-0 advantage. Before the period expired though, the Varsity Blues would make some noise. In the final minute of the frame, Jeremy Pullara received a feed from Emmett Setensits and made no mistake to give his team some life heading into the intermission.

Carrying the energy of their late goal into the third period, the Blues put everything they could on net looking to narrow the gap. However, even though they fired 17 shots at Rams goalie Garrett Forrest in the final frame, the Blues were unable to get anything further past him. With just under two minutes to play, Wells would score his second goal of the contest for the Rams to round out the scoring.

The Blues went 0-4 on the power-play, with the Rams finishing 2-8.

Alex Bishop got the start for Toronto and made 17 saves on 21 shots. Jett Alexander then came on in relief of Bishop and turned aside eight of the nine shots he saw.

UP NEXT: Toronto will return home to Varsity Arena on Tuesday, March 1. Welcoming their other cross-city rival, the Varsity Blues will play host to the York Lions. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
