The Varsity Blues women's hockey team won 2-1 against the No. 8 Waterloo Warriors on Friday, November 26
th at Varsity Arena.
With the win, the Blues their first-place position in the OUA East division with an 9-2 record and 27 points.
WHAT HAPPENED: Despite a strong defensive first period from the Blues, the Warriors struck first, opening the scoring 14:47 into the first period. Warriors second-year forward Lauren Bell's backhand was the sole differentiator between the two side in the first period.
However, the Blues would comeback immediately following the opening faceoff of the second period. Following third-year centre Lauren MacDonnell's faceoff win, second-year forward Katy McKenna and fifth-year forward Celine Frappier combined to tie things up for the Blues.
With just a 1:45 remaining in the period, the Blues would complete their second-period comeback. After a scrum in front of the net, first-year centre Katilyn McKnight buried fellow first-year Emma Elder's rebound to pull the Blues into the lead.
The third period saw a strong offensive effort from the Warriors, but a __ save performance from fourth-year goaltender Erica Fryer secured the Blues the 2-1 win. Fryer faced 14 shots in the contest, saving 13 of them.
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to action on Friday, December 2 when they face off against the Windsor Lancers. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at Varsity Arena.
