KRIEGER'S HAT-TRICK SAILS BLUES PAST GRYPHONS

The Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the University of Guelph Gryphons 5-1 on Thursday night (Nov. 24) at the Gryphon Centre in Guelph, Ontario.

With the win, the Blues move into third place in the OUA West division with an 8-4-1 record and 17 points. Behind the league leading Windsor Lancers and TMU Bold who have 19 points.

WHAT HAPPENED:  The Blues opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the first period. Second-year forward Billy Moskal put his team in the lead right off the bat, setting up the Blues for the victorious night. Third-year forward Ross Krieger followed Moskal's lead extending the Blues lead to two in the 10th minute of play. The economics major intercepted a misplaced Gryphons pass to secure the first goal of his three goal performance.
 

With an assist from second-year Owen Robinson, rookie forward Eddie Yan started off the second period with yet another Blues goal.
 



Blues standout Krieger wasn't far behind, scoring his second and third goal of the night midway through second period. The Pain Court, Ont. native found second-year defenceman Hayden Davis' bank pass to record his second goal of the game. Krieger then made the most of a Blues power play to secure the hat-trick.
 

The Gryphons fought back in third period scoring one, but they were unable to close in on Blues' four-point lead. 
 

Jett Alexander was between the pipes for the Blues tonight. The English major sealed the Blues' win, making a total of 31 saves.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to the ice Sunday, November 27 when they faceoff against the Windsor Lancers and close the season back at the Varsity Arena. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m
