Box Score 2 Picking up a win and a tie Saturday afternoon at the OUA Regional Qualifier, the Toronto Varsity Blues have punched their ticket to the central division final.
After winning their opening game of the tournament on Friday, the Blues began day two with a 3-2 victory over Laurentian before playing to a 10-10 tie against TMU.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Getting seven strong innings from starting pitcher Kento Moriyoshi, the Blues were able to ride his performance to a victory in their first game of the day. Trailing Laurentian 1-0 in the fourth, the Blues tied the game with a Will Brooks rbi single. Then in the following inning, Kristyan Puyol-Genossar knocked in a pair of runs with a single of his own. From there, the Blues called upon Connor Broughton for the six-out save to secure the win.
With their spot in the final already in place, Toronto battled TMU, who they will face in Sunday's final, to round out their round robin. In what wound up being a crazy back and forth affair, the Blues initially jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning of play. Working their way back into the contest, TMU was able to pull even at 6-6 through five innings. Jumping back out in front, the Blues took a 7-6 lead in the top of sixth, and would later lead 10-8 after seven. In the bottom of the ninth, TMU would tally two runs to tie the game at 10, where it would ultimately finish.
UP NEXT: Toronto will face TMU on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. with a spot in next week's OUA Championship tournament on the line.
