Leading midway through the third period, the Toronto Varsity Blues were unable to hold on Friday night in Windsor, Ont., as the hometown Lancers used a late surge to defeat Toronto 6-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Rolling into Windsor on the heels of a 5-0 shut-out victory over the Western Mustangs, the Blues created chances in the early stages but ultimately found themselves trailing by a goal when Jaydon Fetter opened the scoring for the Lancers just over nine minutes in.
Finding the equalizer before the opening period expired, Nick Grima's seeing-eye point-shot made its way through traffic and into the back of the net to tie the game 1-1.
A little under seven minutes into the second, the Blues took their first lead of the contest as Kyle Potts pounced on a rebound and slid it home. The lead, however, was short-lived for Toronto with Windsor tying the game just 17 seconds later.
Tied 2-2 after two, the Blues jumped back out in front midway through the final period on a slap-shot from Brendan Bornstein. Again though, the Lancers would quickly answer, with Robbie Bert finding the equalizer only 31 seconds after.
From there, the Lancers took control scoring 18 seconds later to go up 4-3, before adding on two more, the second of which was into an empty net to round out the scoring.
Getting the start in goal for Toronto, Jett Alexander made 29 saves on 33 shots.
UP NEXT: The Blues will play the latter half of a two-game weekend set in Windsor, taking on the Lancers on October 29 at 4:00 p.m.
