BLUES GO 2-1 ON DAY ONE AT OUS CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2022 OUS Championship got underway on Saturday (Oct. 22) in Kitchener, Ont., with the University of Toronto Varsity Blues softball team hitting the diamond three times.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Toronto 2, University of Windsor 0

In the first game, Katie Humhej threw a gem on Saturday for the Blues, allowing zero runs and striking out 11 batters.

Amelia Collet and Amanda DeConinck got the two runs for the Blues.

Megan Lozinski took the loss for Windsor Lancers. The righthander allowed five hits and two runs over six innings, striking out six and walking one.

Emily Fujiwara, Mihret Eliasziw, Beth DeConinck, and Isabella Trakosas each collected one hit to lead Varsity Blues Softball.

Toronto 1, Western 6
Western Mustangs opened up scoring in the second inning.  Blythe Hilpert hit a line drive that was caught, scoring one run.

Western Mustangs scored four more runs in the sixth inning.  Lauren Greco, Megan Hamilton,  Hilpert, and Madison Mahon each drove in runs during the inning.

Aimee Leduc led things off in the pitcher's circle for Western Mustangs. Leduc lasted seven innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out four.

Katie Humhej was in the circle for Varsity Blues Softball. Humhej went five innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out ten.  Joely Ma threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Katie Monat and Emily Fujiwara each collected one hit to lead Varsity Blues Softball.

Toronto 9, York 2

Varsity Blues Softball scored seven runs in the second on its way to a 9-2 victory over York University Lions on Saturday.  

Sullivan got the start for the Blues. She allowed six hits and two runs over five innings, striking out two and walking zero.

In the first inning, York University Lions got their offense started.  Ashlyn Lebel singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.

Varsity Blues Softball pulled away for good with seven runs in the second inning.  In the second Monat singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, an error scored one run for Varsity Blues Softball, Sullivan singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Collet singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Hodge doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, and DeConinck singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

Varsity Blues Softball collected nine hits.  Collet and Hodge each collected multiple hits for the Blues.  Hodge and Collet lead the Blues with two hits each.  

UP NEXT: The Blues will face off against the Brock Badgers on Sunday, October 23 for a spot in the semi-finals. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.
