The University of Toronto Varsity Blues softball team completed another pair of doubleheaders this weekend, winning three of four games at Hendon Park.

The Blues opened their weekend with back-to-back wins over the York Lions on Saturday (Sept. 26). Toronto shutout the Lions 4-0 in Game 1, before delivering a dominant performance in a 20-1 Game 2 victory. Adding to her stellar season, Vanessa Jeffrey earned the shutout win in the pitching circle in Game 1. The third-year pitcher went all seven innings recording seven strikeouts while conceding just four hits. The Blues bats delivered in Game 2 with 10 U of T players registering an RBI in the big win. Olivia Mather went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Tala Rennie finished the win 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs. Ella O'Brien added another three RBI and two runs on a 2-for-2 outing.

Shifting to Sunday (Sept. 27), the Blues came back from a three run deficit to win Game 1 over the Queen's Gae;s 6-5. However, a 10-5 Game 2 loss brought a streak of five straight wins for Toronto to an end. Tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth, Mather delivered the walk-off win for U of T with a single. Rennie also contributed in the come-from-behind effort, notching a timely three RBI double. Jeffrey and Mather combined in the pitching circle for Game 1. Rennie would add another three hits in Game 2 to finish the weekend 7-for-13 with five runs and six RBI.

The Blues now hold a record of 8-4. They will look to continue adding to their win total as they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Hendon Park on Saturday, Oct. 3. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
