After sweeping the TMU Bold just 24-hours prior, the Varsity Blues once again squared off with the Bold for two more games on Sunday.
Dropping the opening game in a pitcher's duels, 2-1, the Blues responded in the second of the set to pick up a 9-2 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Behind the arm of Katie Humhej, the Blues were able to keep the Bold at bay for much of the first game. Following four shut-out innings of work from Humhej, the Blues got on the in the top of the fifth on a Amelia Collet RBI double.
However, looking to hold their 1-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh, Toronto was unsuccessful. Following an error to start the inning, the Bold got an RBI triple from Rakiyah Hurry, before she came in to score the winning run on the next pitch.
Returning to the diamond trying to earn a split, the Blues broke out the bats early and often. Toronto scored three runs in the first two innings, and then tallied on three more in the fourth, before putting up another three in the sixth. Mihret Eliasziw had a perfect game at the plate going three for three with three RBI's, three runs scored and a walk. Joely Ma picked up the win on the mound going six innings
giving up just one earned run on two hits, while striking out six.
