FIRST HOME EXHIBITION GAME A SUCCESS FOR BLUES

Playing in the comforts of home for the first time in their 2022 exhibition schedule, the Varsity Blues got things off on the right foot Thursday night.

Hosting the Acadia Axewomen, the Blues won three straight sets after dropping the first, to record a 3-1 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED: After dropping the opening set 25-18, Toronto was able to respond in a big way winning three straight tightly-contested sets.

Using a mix of the veteran experiences and their newest additions, the Blues managed to take sets two, three and four by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 28-26 respectively.

Leading the attack for the Blues were the familiar faces of Asya Dogruer and Hope Kotun. Dogruer led the team in kills with 12, while Kotun also reached double-digits, registering 10.

Starting at setter on Thursday night, Jenna Peters led the team in assists with 33, while Kotun and first-year libero Jamie Hewlett each recorded a team-high in digs with 14.

Dogruer's three and a half blocks led Toronto.

UP NEXT: The Blues will continue their exhibition schedule when they head to London, Ont., for a battle with the Western Mustangs.
