Rookie midfielder McKinley Kennedy scored her first career goal in helping the University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team to a 1-1 tie against the York Lions in their 2021 home opener on Wednesday, September 29 at Back Campus Fields.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED: After Lions forward Amber Sandhu opened the scoring off a penalty corner early in the second quarter, Kennedy stepped up and evened the game for the Blues.
Â
After the Blues drew a penalty corner, the life science major from North Vancouver buried a Sam McCrory rebound in the 28th minute.
Â
That was all the offensive either team could muster in the 1-1 draw. Second-year goalie Deepi Gill earned the tie in net for the Blues.
Â
UP NEXT: The Blues head to Kingston, Ont., to take on the Queen's Gaels this Saturday, October 2. The first game is set for 11 a.m., with the second to follow at 3:15 p.m.
