BLUES DOWN GEE-GEES, LIONS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues softball team improved to 7-0 on the season following three big wins this weekend (Sept. 25-26).
 
Toronto 7, Ottawa 0
 
Katie Humhej was brilliant in the pitcher's circle on Saturday, throwing a no-hitter to lead the Blues past Ottawa, 7-0.
 
Toronto secured the victory thanks to five runs in the sixth inning.  U of T's big inning was driven by a walk by Mihret Eliasziw, an error on a ball put in play by Amanda DeConinck, and a double by Humhej.
 
Humhej earned the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out 14 and walking one.
 
Beth DeConinck, Amanda DeConinck, Shilo Chislett, Eliasziw, Janelle Hodge, and Humhej all had one hit to lead the Blues.  
 
Toronto 7, York 0
 
Aurora Nowicki and Erin Sullivan combined for the shutout win on the mound on Sunday morning.
 
Nowicki surrendered zero runs on three hits over four innings, striking out two.  Sullivan threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
 
Amanda DeConinck led the Blues with three hits in four at bats.  Toronto was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
 
Toronto 11, York 1
 
Jessica Tamayo wasted no opportunities at the plate on Sunday afternoon, driving in four on two hits to lead  the Blues to the 11-1 victory over the Lions. Tamayo drove in runs on a fielder's choice in the first, a double in the second, and a single in the third.
 
Sullivan was the winning pitcher for the Blues, going four innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out five and walking zero.
 
Tamayo and Rachel Seguin had two hits to lead Varsity Blues Softball.
