TRUSSLER PLAYS OT HERO FOR SECOND STRAIGHT GAME; BLUES DOWN RAMS

The University of Toronto Blues women's hockey team ended 2021 without a regulation loss, defeating the Rams 3-2 in overtime on Friday, December 3.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues got the scoring started on the powerplay, when Taylor Trussler scored her fifth goal of the year midway through the first.

In the second, fourth-year forward Celine Frappier put the puck past Rams goalie Rachel Seeley in the last minute, giving the Blues a 2-0 advantage.

The Rams made a comeback in the third, putting up two goals and sending it to overtime. Fourth-year forward Brooklyn Gemmill scored at the 6:08 mark cutting the lead to one. The Rams would eventually find their second goal off of the stick of fifth-year forward Lauren Nicholson with 2:02 left in the game.

In the extra period, the Blues fired five shots on Seely, controlling most of the period. Trussler scored her second goal of the contest, after some tic-tac-toe passing from Louie Bieman and Gabrielle De Serres to send the Blues home with another win.

Third-year goalie Erica Fryer made 24 saves to get her fifth win of the season. The Blues head into the break with some momentum, finishing with a record of 7-0-1.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action on Friday, January 14 when they play the Nipissing Lakers in the first game of a back-to-back series at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is at 6:00 p.m.
