The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's water polo team continued to roll, scoring a 25-2 win over the visiting Queens Gaels on Saturday, October 30.
The win was the third consecutive decisive outcome following 24-4 (McMaster) and 19-2 (Guelph) victories to open the season.
Â
It was another dominating opening quarter for the Blues, who rode a stifling defence and quick counterattack to a 7-0 lead. With three quick goals to open the second period, Toronto pushed its lead to double digits before the visitors got on the board via a penalty shot. The Blues then struck six more times before the half ended to lead 16-1.
Â
Toronto gave up another penalty shot goal to the Gaels in the third stanza but replied in spades with six additional goals to up the lead to 22-2. Toronto's powerplay went a perfect 3-for-3 on the day, as did the penalty shooting, converting on both attemps.Â
Â
Tyanna Supreme (Montreal) had a big game at center forward, scoring six goals to pace the Toronto attack. Deena Charles (Langley, B.C.) and Julia Decaire (Ottawa) each notched hat tricks. Lauren Dundee (Perth, Scotland), Chloe MacVicar (Irvine, California), Alexandra Lee (Palo alto, California), Vega Jones (Surrey, B.C.) and Hannah Levin (Calgary) all scored twice, while singles went to Tori Wilson (Kitchener), Kaitlyn Palmer (Ottawa) and Julianna Hill (Victoria, B.C.).
Â
Blues goalies Rachael Jaffe (Irvine, California) and Hanna Truchla (Toronto) split the duties and backstopped the Toronto defence, which did not yield an even-strength or powerplay goal.
Â
UP NEXT: The Blues host a Friday night (Nov. 5) 9pm rematch with McMaster and a Saturday 1pm tilt with Ontario Water Polo's Toronto Regional Development Center team. For the first time this season, spectators will be allowed for both matches; however, all fans require a
pre-registered ticket and proof of vaccination at the door.Â
