MEN’S SOCCER DROPS QUARTER-FINAL DECISION

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the No. 2 nationally-ranked York Lions in OUA quarter-final action on Wednesday, November 3.

Toronto ends their 2021 campaign with a 6-4-1 record through the regular season and playoffs.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Fourth-year Blues goalkeeper Ben Grondin shone through the match, ending the night with nine saves.

Grondin made his first of five first-half saves in the 20th minute, diving to deny a nice shot from York's Niko Sigur. Team captain Nikola Stakic made a nice clearing attempt off a free kick late in the first half to keep the match scoreless after 45 minutes.

Third-year Blues midfielder Anthony Sousa had U of T's best chance to equalize in the 58th minute has he received a nice through ball from Artem Tesker and broke in all alone, but Lions goalkeeper George Tzimas was there to challenge.
