The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell to the Queen's Gaels 2-1 on Saturday night (Nov. 13) in Kingston, Ont.
The game marked the Blues first loss in conference play in the 2021-22 season
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â Despite outshooting the Gaels 10-to-5, the Blues nor the Gaels could break the deadlock through the first period.
It wasn't until 11:12 into the second period that Blues first-year forward Aili McKeown would open the scoring.
Â
Â
McKeown received the puck through fellow first-year forward Avery Lee before sneaking it past the left pad of the Queen's netminder.
Queen's would level the score midway through the third period by way of second-year forward Sydney Wilson and first-year forward Kelsey Dunn.
Â
With neither team able to break the deadlock, the Blues and Gaels headed to overtime where Blues fourth-year goalie Madeline Albert's glove save sent the teams to a shootout.
Â
Â
With no Blue able to best the Queen's netminder through the shootout, it was Queen's third-year forward
Quinn Johnston who would secure the Gaels their first two points of the 2021-22 season.
Â
Third-year netminder Madeline Albert made 23 saves in the loss.
