University of Toronto Varsity Blues veterans Hannah Genich and Cam Kidd both earned national titles on Day 2 of the 2020 U SPORTS Championships (Feb. 21) in Victoria, B.C.

TEAM STANDINGS: The Blues women sit in second place with 701.5 points, behind the UBC Thunderbirds (744.5) and ahead of the Calgary Dinos (590.5). Toronto's men move into third place with 537 points, behind UBC (719) and Calgary (571) and ahead of McGill (530).

WOMEN'S RESULTS: Genich, a fourth-year veteran from Cobourg, Ont., won her second career individual national title, touching the 50 butterfly wall in 27.31 seconds. It marks Genich's second medal of the meet after earning silver in the 100-metre butterfly on Day 1.

Later in the night, Genich swam an incredible last 50-metres to earn the 200 butterfly silver medal in 2:13.93. Fellow veteran Georgia Kidd claimed the bronze medal in 2:14.66.

Genich, along with Claire Howard, Georgia Kidd and Aleksa Gold capped off Day 3 with a bronze-medal finish in the women's 800 freestyle relay in 8:20.55.

Gold opened Day 2 with a silver-medal standing in the women's 100 backstroke, clocking a time of 1:02.21.
Â
Fellow sophomore standout Ainsley McMurray earned the 50 freestyle silver medal in 26.12 seconds, while Rachel Rodé finished in a three-way tie for the bronze medal in 26.47 seconds.

Rookie Abby McDonald placed fifth in the women's 200 breaststroke in 2:35.70, while Claire Howard (4:23.16) and Kate Rendall (4:24.32) placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 400 freestyle.

MEN'S RESULTS: Fourth-year standout Cam Kidd reached the podium twice on Day 2, including his first career U SPORTS individual title. Kidd struck gold in the men's 50 freestyle, touching the wall in 22.77 seconds.

Earlier in the night, Kidd earned the men's 50 butterfly bronze medal for the second time in three years with a time of 25.05 seconds.

Fellow veteran Osvald Nitski earned his second national bronze medal of the meet, touching the wall in 2:03.19 in the men's 200 butterfly.
Â
Rookie Max Tambling placed fourth in the men's 400 freestyle in 3:58.52, while Graeme Aylward was also fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.96).

Tambling, Bernard Godolphin, Gael Chaubet and Bjoern-Ole Schrader ended the night with a sixth-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay in 7:35.85.

UP NEXT:Â The championships wrap up tomorrow (Feb. 22) with preliminaries set to begin at 1 p.m. EDT (10 a.m. local) and finals scheduled for 9 p.m. EDT (6 p.m. local).
