AYLWARD, GENICH NAMED ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

University of Toronto swimmers Graeme Aylward and Hannah Genich have been named the Varsity Blues athletes of the week for the period ending February 9.

Fourth-year veteran Hannah Genich earned OUA female swimmer of the year honours in leading the Varsity Blues to their seventh straight provincial title this past weekend.

The Cobourg, Ont., native swept the 50, 100 and 200 butterfly events, earning an OUA grand slam and breaking her own record in the latter, while also helping the Blues to gold-medal finishes in the 200 and 800 freestyle relays.

A four-time OUA first team all-star, Genich capped off Day 3 with a gold-medal finish in the 200 individual medley, which earned her the Dr. Jeno Tihanyi IM award of excellence for the second time in her career.

Second-year standout Graeme Aylward won four gold medals and added one silver in leading the Varsity Blues men's swimming team to their 17th straight OUA banner this past weekend at Toronto Pan Am Pool in Scarborough.

The industrial engineering major from Milton Ont., won the 100 and 200 breaststroke events to earn OUA first team all-star honours.

Aylward also helped the Blues to victory in the 200 and 400 medley relays, setting a new OUA record in the former, and claimed the 50-metre breaststroke silver medal on Day 3 of the championships.
