Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

BLUES BLANKED BY HAWKS

The No. 4 University of Toronto Varsity Blues were shutout by  the Laurier Golden Hawks 4-0 on Saturday night (Jan 25) In Waterloo.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Hawks offence came out with speed and forced the Toronto defence to step up their game. The Blues held them off until Danny Hanlon buried a rebound to open the scoring with just three minutes left in the frame.

Toronto's league leading powerplay had a couple of opportunities to even the game up in the second. Hawks goalie Tyler Fassl held strong and kept the Blues off the board. Laurier extended their lead as Will Cook scored to put U of T down by two after two.

The Blues needed to rally together in the third period if they wanted to comeback and win. They applied pressure but got into some penalty trouble at the midway point of the frame. Zack Dybowski capitalized on the powerplay for Laurier to put Toronto down by three. Hanlon added an empty netter to put it out of reach for the Blues.

Second-year netminder Alex Bishop made 28 saves in the losing effort.

UP NEXT: The Blues head to London on Wednesday night (Jan 29) to battle the Western Mustangs at 7:00pm.
