FOULEM, BLUES SHUTOUT HAWKS

Third-year netminder Frederic Foulem stopped all 40 shots he faced to earn his first career shutout in leading the No. 3 nationally-ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues to a 3-0 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday night (Jan. 18) at Varsity Arena.

With the win, the Blues improve to 19-2-1 and remain atop the OUA West division standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED: After a scoreless first period, Ross Krieger got the Blues on the board as he sent a shot through traffic to beat Laurier's Matt Williams.

Less than two minutes later, rookie standout Oliver Benwell received a centering pass from Kyle Potts and wired it into the top corner of the net. Toronto held a 2-0 lead at the second intermission.

OUA leading point-getter David Thomson extended Toronto's lead to three seven minutes into the third period. The Vaughan, Ont., native picked up a Joey Manchurek rebound in the slot and made no mistake in beating Laurier netminder Tyler Fassl.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action this Wednesday, January 22 as they host the Western Mustangs at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
