Fifth-year right side hitter Alina Dormann notched a game-high 21 points in leading the No. 3 nationally-ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-17) victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night (Jan. 17) at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

TORONTO STATS: Dormann led all players with 16 kills, while adding four aces, one block and 12 digs on the night.

Fellow fifth-year veteran Anna Licht posted 10 points off of a game-high five aces, four kills and one block. Third-year middle Jenna Woock added eight points off of five kills and three aces.

Caleigh Cruickshank had a game-high 14 digs, along with five points, while sophomore setter Hayley Goodwin tallied 24 assists and eight digs in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The first set started as a back-and-forth battle with the score even at 14-14. The Blues came alive and rhymed off an 11-4 run, capped off by a big kill from Dormann, to take a 1-0 lead, 25-16.

U of T carried their dominant play into the second set, getting out to a 5-0 lead and taking a 16-7 advantage into the technical timeout. Dormann once again closed out the set, this time with an ace, as Toronto took a 2-0 lead, 25-12.

The Lakers responded in the third set, taking an early 5-1 lead and built a five-point advantage at 12-7. U of T began to find their rhythm, going on a 9-3 run to take a narrow 16-15 lead at the technical timeout. Â It was all Toronto from there as the Blues ended the set on a 9-2 streak to close out the match, 25-17.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action next Friday, January 24 when they travel to Kingston, Ont., to take on the RMC Paladins. Opening serve is set for 6 p.m.
