The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team defeated the Queen's Gaels 6-1 and 5-2 to open their 2019 regular season on Saturday, September 7 in Kingston, Ont.

TORONTO STATS: William Yang led the Blues with three hits, one RBI and two stolen bases in the first game of the day, while both Joe Woods and Gabriel Nakonechny had two RBI each. Mateos Kekatos earned the win on the mound, striking out six and allowing only six hits in seven innings of work.

Nakonechny led U of T in the second game of the afternoon with three hits and two RBI in four at bats. Dean Christidis earned the win, striking out three in five innings of work.

UP NEXT: The Blues take on the Montreal Carabins in exhibition action tomorrow (Sept 8) at Dan Lang Field.
