The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team travels to Waterloo for the 2019 OUA Final Four, March 8-9.
The Blues, who finished second in the OUA East division (14-5), will battle the host and top-seeded Waterloo Warriors (17-2) in the semifinals on Friday night at 6 p.m.
Toronto earned their eighth consecutive berth into the Final Four following a 3-1 quarter-final victory over the Brock Badgers last Saturday, while Waterloo cruised through the York Lions, 3-0, to advance to their first Final Four since 2008.
The OUA and U SPORTS defending champion Ryerson Rams will take on the Western Mustangs in Friday's second semifinal. The winners of both semifinals will automatically qualify for the 2019 U SPORTS championship, March 15-17, at the University of Alberta, and will face off for the Quigley Cup on Saturday at 6 p.m.
In their only meeting this season, the Warriors came back from a two set deficit to defeat Toronto 3-2. Coming into this contest, the Blues have won their last seven matches, only dropping three sets in that span.
Fourth-year outside hitter Alina Dormann is the player to watch for Toronto. She recently earned her fourth consecutive OUA first team all-star nod after leading the team and ranking second in the province with 3.91 kills and 4.6 point per set.
Along with Dormann, the Blues will need OUA first team all-star Anna Feore and second team all-stars Anna Licht and Jenna Woock to come up big in order to hand Waterloo their first home loss of the season.
OUA West division coach of the year Richard Eddy has turned around Waterloo's program during his five years. Similar to U of T, Richard relies on numerous weapons to inflict damage. Outside hitters Sarah Glynn and Claire Mackenzie averaged over 3.34 kills per set and 3.9 point per set to lead a balance attack.
