BLUES DROP DECISION TO GAELS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell 59-51 to Queen's Gaels on Friday (Feb. 15) night at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

TORONTO STATS: Fourth-year guard Keyira Parkes had a team-high 12 points and added two assists, while senior Charlotte Collyer chipped in with nine points, six rebounds and three steals.

Third-year forward Nada Radonjic recorded eight points and two assists in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues kept the contest close early thanks to their defence. They were only down 13-10 after the opening quarter. Queen's offence exploded in the second quarter though, outscoring Toronto 18-8 to head into halftime up 31-18.

U of T was able to generate a 9-2 run out of the break but trailed 51-35 after the third quarter. The Blues did not give up in the final frame, putting up 16 points compared to the Gaels eight, but could not complete the comeback.

UP NEXT: The Blues wrap up their season tomorrow (Feb. 16) night when they host the York Loins at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. The Blues will be celebrating Michèle Bélanger's 40th season at U of T, as well as their graduating players, with tip off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
