The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's squash team earned the bronze medal at the 2019 OUA championships (Feb 8-10) at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.
The Blues won four of their fixtures across the three-day to finish with a 26-16 record. They had the same record as the silver medalist Queen's Gaels, but Toronto lost the head-to-head matchup 4-3. It marked the first time they earned a medal at the OUA championships since 2016.
Freshman Josh Hollings took home the MVP award, after going undefeated the entire season until his final match against Western's number one player David Mill. The Nobleton, Ont., native was also named an OUA All-Star.
Toronto opened the tournament winning both their matchups on Day 1, 5-2 against Brock and 7-0 versus Guelph. On a busy Saturday, the Blues dropped a 4-3 decision to Queen's, but followed it up with victories over McMaster (6-1) and Waterloo (5-2). In their final match against the eventual champion Western Mustangs, they fell 7-0.
