The No. 4 nationally-ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the No. 9 Waterloo Warriors, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 30) at Varsity Arena.
With the win, the Blues improve to 9-3-0 and sit tied with the Warriors for first place in the OUA, with a game in hand.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Fifth-year defenceman Cristine Chao opened the scoring seven minutes into the contest as she sent a nice shot through traffic and off some bodies into the top corner of the net.
After a scoreless second period, the Warriors evened the score as Krystin Lawrence skated the length of the ice and made good on a reaching backhand shot. Â
First-year forward Lauren MacDonnell then stepped up in a big way, picking off a Waterloo pass and sending a booming shot that deflected off of Chao and into the top corner of the net.
Second-year Blues netminder Erica Fryer made 24 saves in the win.
UP NEXT:Â The Blues wrap up the fall semester tomorrow (Dec. 1) when they host the Brock Badgers at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
