BLUES CAP OFF PERFECT REGULAR SEASON

The Varsity Blues women's water polo team closed out its National Collegiate Water Polo (NCWP) regular season with a pair of victories over McGill and Ottawa at the Queen's Invitational on Sunday, November 3.

The wins left the Blues with their seventh consecutive undefeated regular season.

In the early morning match, Toronto quickly jumped in front with four unanswered goals in the opening quarter.  The second period was almost identical to the first as the Blues piled on a 5-1 margin to lead 9-1 at the half.

Then the Blues attack became erratic in a second half of play that the team only won 6-5 putting the final score at 15-6 over McGill.

Lauren Dundee (Perth, Scotland) again paced the Blues attack with five goals.  Sophomores Allie Vas (Yorba Linda, California) and Sara Sutherland (Regina) plus freshman Kaitlyn Palmer (Ottawa) each added a pair of  goals.

Senior co-captain Kassie Fraser (Vancouver) and sophomores Sarah Wentling (Mohnton, Pennsylvania) and Emily Grossman (Santa Clara, California) added single markers.

In the afternoon tilt, Toronto was up against last year's NCWP finalist Ottawa Gee-Gees.

The Blues scored four counterattack goals in the first quarter and then exploded for seven straight goals in the second period to lead 11-0 at the half.   A 2-1 third quarter and a 3-1 final frame provided for the 16-2 win.

Dundee and Palmer both netted four goals, while Wentling chipped in with a hat trick.  Grossman popped in a pair of goals while Sutherland, Vas and junior Masa Stojanovic (Toronto) pitched in with singles.

Starting goalie Rachael Jaffe (Irvine, California) did not give up a goal in her half of play before giving way to senior Maddie Hertz (Miami, Florida).

The two wins concluded a 4-0 weekend of play.  As a result, the Blues will enter the NCWP championship at Carleton in two weeks as the No. 1 seed.
