The No. 4 University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team extended their win streak to ten games as they defeated the Waterloo Warriors 6-2 on Friday night (Nov 22) in Waterloo.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues took an early penalty and Chase Campbell capitalized for the Warriors. The lead didn't last long though as Toronto would get a powerplay opportunity of their own and Oliver Benwell tied the game up. The Blues kept applying pressure and were awarded for it. Hunter Atchison sniped his fifth goal of the season, giving the Blues the lead after 20 minutes.
Â
Five minutes in the second, Atchison buried his second of the game off a Kyle Potts pass to bring the Blues lead up to two. Waterloo defencemen Connor Lovie cut the lead in half to keep the game close heading into the final frame.
Â
It was all Blues in the third period, kicked off by Benwell, who sniped his second goal of the night. Evan MacEachern made a nice play to keep the puck in the zone on the powerplay and fed David Thomson, who ripped in his team-leading fourth powerplay goal of the season. Kyle Clarke put the game away when he used his speed to extend the Toronto lead to four.
Â
Second-year goalie Alex Bishop made 23 saves to keep the Blues in first place of the OUA West division.
Â
UP NEXT: The Blues are in St. Catharines next Friday night (Nov 29) to take on the Brock Badgers at 7:15pm.
