The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the York Lions in the OUA championship final on Saturday, November 2 in Ottawa.
The silver-medal placing matches Toronto's best finish since also placing second in 1990. It also marks the Blues fourth podium finish since the program's inception in 1985.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Lions opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the match as their corner kick went off a Blues defender and into the net. York doubled their lead eight minutes later as the rebound off a free kick found a Lion all alone in the box.
Third-year midfielder Miranda Badovinac had a couple of good chances to get the Blues on the board, but Toronto went into half down by two.
The Blues put on the pressure in the second half as Daniela Cipriano and Jenny Wolever both had good chances to score, but time expired before Toronto could find the back of the net.
Fourth-year Blues netmidner Levanta Staggolis made seven saves in the loss, while York's Danitza Indacochea made five saves in the clean sheet win.
UP NEXT: The Blues head to Victoria for the 2019 U SPORTS national championship, November 7-10. The full seeding and schedule will be announced Sunday following the AUS final.
