Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

BLUES ROUT VOYAGEURS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs 7-1 on Saturday night (Nov. 1) at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: It was a fast paced first period with breakouts at both ends of the ice. Both the Blues and Voyageurs played strong defensive games, shutting down each other's offensive opportunities. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the frame.

The Blues managed to open up the scoring in the second period. Jared Leslie, in his first game of the season, buried a goal off of a great pass from Scott Kirton. Justin Brand followed up and scored his first of the season to give Toronto a two goal lead. The Blues continued playing strong defence throughout the second, only allowing six shots to make it to second-year goalie Alex Bishop in the frame. Kirton and Joey Manchurek added goals for the Blues as they headed to the dressing room with a four goal lead.

The Blues continued to dominate in the final period. David Thomson buried his team leading sixth goal of the season on a power play opportunity. Gavin Apperson scored for Laurentian only 21 second after the Thomson goal, but it was too late. Oliver Benwell scored to extend the Toronto lead back to five and Hunter Atchison finished his own rebound with 25 second left to put the Voyageurs away.

15 different Blues recorded at least one point in their victory.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action tomorrow afternoon (Nov. 3) at 3:00pm as they battle the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at Varsity Arena.
