The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team bested the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 4-1 on Sunday afternoon (Nov 3) at Varsity Arena.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Ridgebacks opened the scoring with a goal from Brennan Roy just under five minutes into the game. Around the halfway point of the period, the Blues got two opportunities on the power play. Ontario Tech was able to kill off the first one, but Justin Brand found the back of the net on the second to tie the game up. They headed to the dressing tied at one, after a hard fought and feisty 20 minutes.
Â
Toronto applied continuous pressure throughout the second frame. They held possession for majority of the period, taking 12 shots on goal, while limiting the Ridgebacks to only four. Despite their efforts, no team was able to score and the game remained even through two.
Â
The third period was all Blues. Chase Olsen picked up the puck off an Ontario Tech turnover and buried his first of the season. Three minutes later, David Thomson roofed a goal past Ontario Tech goalie Michael Bullion to score his seventh of the season and take sole possession of the points lead in the OUA. Hunter Atchison sniped a goal with under five minutes remaining to put the game out of reach for the Ridgebacks.
Â
Second-year goalie Alex Bishop made 23 saves in the winning effort.
Â
UP NEXT: The Blues head to Kingston, Ontario to battle the Queen's Gaels on Friday (Nov 8) at 7:30 pm and the RMC Paladins on Saturday (Nov 9) at 3:00pm.
