BLUES ADVANCE TO NCWP FINAL

The Varsity Blues women's water polo team booked its ticket into the NCWP championship final with a 15-2 victory over the host Carleton Ravens on Saturday afternoon in Ottawa.

The first quarter proved to be a tough slog for the Blues as the Ravens came out with a full court press.  Toronto poked and prodded and finally found a way to pot a pair of goals to lead 2-0 at the end of the opening period.

The Ravens defence held for the first half of the second quarter but then the Blues scored three unanswered goals leaving the team with a 5-0 advantage heading into the second half.

U of T's conditioning started to show in the third period as the team exploded for four unanswered goals.  The Ravens finally broke through towards the end of the quarter but the Blues still led 10-2 entering the final frame.

The Blues then clamped down for another shutout quarter, while notching five tallies.

Sophomore Allie Vas (Yorba Linda, California) led the way for the Blues with five goals.  Freshman Lauren Dundee (Perth, Scotland) also had a strong game with four markers.   Sophomore Sara Sutherland (Regina) picked up a hat trick, while rookie Kaitlyn Palmer (Ottawa) chipped in with a pair of goals. Caitlyn Tiedje (Calgary) added a single in the win.

The final will be a rematch of last year's championship game as the Ottawa Gee-Gees defeated the Queen's Gaels, 7-2, to win Group B.

The game tips off at 2:15pm with the Blues looking for their seventh consecutive university championship.
