NO. 2 BLUES DROP SHOOTOUT DECISION

The No. 2 University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell to the Laurentian Voyageurs 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday (Nov 16) in Sudbury.

HOW IT HAPPENED: After both coming off a loss the day before, the Blues and Voyageurs were looking to get back in the win column. After a scoreless first period, Gabrielle De Serres opened up the scoring in the second with a blast from the point that beat Laurentian goalie Shanna Dolighan. The Voyageurs responded with a goal of their own as Karissa Hopkin used her speed to win the race for the puck and beat third-year goalie Madeline Albert.

The Blues applied pressure in the third, outshooting the Voyageurs 10-7 in the frame. No team was able to get the go-ahead goal so the game was headed to overtime.

U of T continued to pepper the Voyageurs in extra time but were not able to capitalize, sending the game into a shootout. Adrianna Noble was able to score for Toronto but Laurentian followed with two goals and Dolighan made two saves to hand the Blues their second straight loss.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back home on Thursday night (Nov 21) at 7:00 pm to face off against the York Lions at Varsity Arena.
