Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

BLUES WIN SUBWAY SERIES

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the York Lions 5-3 on Saturday night at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Lions got on the board early with a goal from Benjamin Evanish. Toronto answered back quickly with a goal in the slot from Scott Kirton, who notched his first of the season. The Blues would continue to roll scoring three more in the first period.

Ross Krieger potted one off of a bad Lions giveaway in the slot, Evan MacEachern made a quick move and sniped one past Lions goalie Mack Shields and Kyle Clarke picked up a chip pass from Hunter Fargey and roofed it with seven seconds left in the period.

York was the only team to find the back of the net in the second period with a goal from Nik Coric. The second period saw 18 penalty minutes given out between both teams.

The Lions took 24 minutes of penalties in the third frame and also gave Toronto the opportunity at a penalty shot. David Thomson took the penalty shot for the Blues and scored on a nifty move that beat Shields. York would pull their goalie and add one late but Varsity Blues goalie Alex Bishop shut the door the rest of the way.

Bishop made 28 saves and recorded his second win in two nights.

UP NEXT: The Blues head to St. Catharines to take on the Brock Badgers this Thursday (Oct 10) at 7:15pm.
