The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the Lakehead Thunderwolves 3-1 on Saturday night (Oct 26).
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Thunderwolves got on the board first with a goal from Greg Smith. Toronto and Lakehead would continue to trade quality chances but Smith's goal stood as the only one through 20 minutes.
The Blues answered back quickly in the second period with a goal from Oliver Benwell less than a minute into the frame. Toronto's two leading scorers connected for the Blues second goal of the game. David Thomson won the face-off to Joey Manchurek who shot it past Lakehead goalie Nic Renyard.
Each team continued to battle hard in the third period. The Blues looked to extend their lead while the Thunderwolves looked to tie the game up. Third-year forward Scott Kirton gave the Blues what they were looking for and scored to push the U of T lead to two. Lakehead was unable to get anything else past Toronto second-year goalie Alex Bishop.
Manchurek and Thomson combined for 10 points over the Thunderwolves this weekend, while Bishop recorded two wins and made 64 saves.
UP NEXT: The Blues head home to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday night (Nov 2) at 7:00 PM at Varsity Arena.
