The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell 72-54 to the Laurier Golden Hawks in their 2019-20 season opener on Wednesday, October 23 in Waterloo, Ont.
TORONTO STATS: Second-year guard Inaki Alvarez led the Blues with 17 points, while adding four rebounds and two steals on the night. Rookie forward Anthony Daudu notched a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Laurier got out to a hot start and led 19-9 after the first quarter. The Blues kept pace in the second, outscored by two and trailed 34-22 at halftime. U of T came out of the locker room ready to go and cut the deficit to just two (44-42) in the late stages of the third quarter. The Hawks responded with a dominant fourth quarter though to seal the win.
UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action next Friday, November 1 when they travel to take on the York Lions. Toronto's home opener is slated for next Saturday, November 2 versus the Brock Badgers at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. Tip off is set for 8 p.m., on both nights.
