BLUES GO 1-1 ON DAY 1 OF OUA CHAMPIONSHIP

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team dropped a 7-5 decision to the Queen's Gaels but bounced back with a 9-4 win over the York Lions on Day 1 of the OUA baseball championship (Oct. 11).

Queen's 7, Toronto 5

The Gaels got out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning but the Blues brought the game back within one in the top of the fourth. Queen's put the game out of reach, scoring four in the bottom of the fourth. Down 7-2 heading into the top of the seventh, the Blues scored three to inch closer, but that was all they could muster.

Gabriel Nakonechny led the Blues with three hits and two runs, while Kristyan Puyol-Genossar had two RBI in the loss.

Toronto 9, York 4

Toronto and York were tied 2-2 after the first inning, but York surged ahead, scoring two more in the top of the third. The Blues responded late, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out the victory.

Joe Woods led U of T with two hits and two RBI, while both Graham Tebbit and Zachary Stevenson had two hits and one RBI in the win.

Noah Ramchar relieved starter Josh Graham and pitched five innings, allowing only one hit and striking out one.
