The No. 8 University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team dropped a 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 9-15) decision to the Queen's Gaels on Saturday (Jan. 26) afternoon on the road.
TORONTO STATS: Fourth-year right side hitter Alina Dormann recorded a team-high 20 points off 18 kills, one ace and one block, while also adding eight digs.
Fifth-year veteran Anna Feore totaled 12.5 points with eight kills, four blocks and had 10 digs as well. Second-year middle Jenna Woock registered 11 points off seven kills, two aces and a pair of blocks.
Third-year middle Anna Licht posted 9.5 points and four digs, while libero Sophia Currier tallied a team-high 16 digs in the match. Second-year setter Rayn Perry chipped in with 35 assists and 11 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Queen's rallied off eight straight points to build a 16-10 advantage at the first technical timeout. The home team kept that lead taking the opening set 25-21.
In the second set, it was Toronto that mounted an 11-1 run to go up 16-10 at the technical timeout. Even though the Gaels got within two points late in the set, Woock recorded the final kill to seal the 25-20 victory.
The third set was a back-and-forth affair from the start, but Queen's took a slim 16-14 advantage into the technical timeout. There were a total of nine ties throughout the set, but the Blues ended on a 5-1 run to take it 25-21.
The fourth set was very similar to the third, with neither team leading by more than two points. Queen's was up 16-14 at the technical timeout. The Gaels were able to hold off a late surge from the Blues to take the fourth set 25-23. Queen's continued the momentum into the fifth set, building an 8-5 lead at the switch and went on to win 15-9.
UP NEXT: The Blues continue their road trip in Kington, Ont., on Sunday (Jan. 27) afternoon against the RMCÂ Paladins. All the action starts at 1:00 p.m.
