The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's volleyball team fell 3-1 (17-25, 25-22, 18-25, 22-25) to the Queen's Gaels on Saturday (Jan. 26) afternoon on the road.
TORONTO STATS: First-year left side hitter Evan Farlardeau led the way with a team-high 15 points on 15 kills, while adding five digs. Veteran Chris Towe posted 11 points off 10 kills and an ace. He also tallied six digs in the match.
Third-year outside hitter Nicholas Trewern recorded 10.5 points thanks to nine kills and 1.5 blocks and had a team-high nine digs. Third-year setter Jordan Figueira registered 35 assists and seven digs.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED: Both squads came in with eight wins and tied for second in the OUA East division. It was the Gaels that got things going early, leading 16-10 at the technical timeout. The home team did not look back and took the opening set 25-17.
The two teams traded points throughout the second set. Toronto had the 16-14 edge at the technical timeout. It went down to the wire, but Towe's kill allowed the Blues to claim the set 25-22.
The tight matchup continued in the third set. After Toronto took an early 8-5 advantage, Queen's responded and went into the technical timeout up 16-13. The Gaels put together a 7-2 run to help snag the set 25-18.
U of T bounced early in the fourth. They put together a 5-1 run to lead 16-14 come the technical timeout. The back-and-forth action continued, but when the score was 22-22, Queen's recorded three straight points to win 25-22.
UP NEXT: The Blues stay in Kingston, Ont., to face the RMCÂ Paladins on Sunday (Jan. 27) afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
