BLUES KEEP ROLLING IN 2019

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team recorded their sixth straight victory, defeating the Nipissing Lakers 2-1 in overtime on Sunday evening (Jan. 20) at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Third-year defenceman Jana Headrick opened the scoring late in the first period as she banged home a pass from Breanna Berndsen to give the home team a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of action.

After a scoreless second period, the Lakers evened the game as Brianna Gaffney found the back of the net to force overtime.

With the Blues on a 4-on-3 powerplay in overtime, Cristine Chao skated the puck in low and Mathilde De Serres was there finish it off.

Rookie goalie Erica Fryer made 22 saves in the win.

UP NEXT: The Blues host the Brock Badgers this Friday, January 25 in U of T's Bell Let's Talk Game at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
