The Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the Brock Badgers 3-1 in U of T's Bell Let's Talk game in support of mental health on Friday night (Jan. 25) at Varsity Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Fourth-year defenceman Cristine Chao opened the score just 45 seconds into the game, wiring a shot from the point past Badgers goalie Jensen Murphy. The Badgers responded three minutes later as Makyla Porter found the back of the net. The game was tied at 1-1 at the first intermission.
After a back-and-forth second period, Blues leading scorer Kassie Roache scored off a rebound on the powerplay with 30 seconds remaining in the frame. Toronto was up 2-1 after 40 minutes of action.
Megan O'Brien potted an insurance marker midway through the third period, spinning around on the back hand to bury a Kiyono Cox rebound.
Rookie netminder Erica Fryer made 20 saves in the Blues seventh straight victory.
UP NEXT: The Blues head to Waterloo, Ont., to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks tomorrow night (Jan. 26) at7:07 p.m.
