SPECIAL TEAMS LEADS BLUES TO 5TH STRAIGHT WIN

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team remain undefeated in 2019, notching a 2-1 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday, January 19 at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Fifth-year forward Kassie Roache opened the scoring midway through the first period as she banged home a rebound on the powerplay for her team-leading ninth goal of the season. The Blues held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of action.

The Voyageurs evened the score late in the second frame as Krissa Hoskin buried a centering pass from Myla McCormick on the powerplay. The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 at the second intermission.

The Blues netted the eventual game-winner on the powerplay halfway through the third period. Rookie forward Taylor Trussler tipped in a Julia Szulewska point shot for her fifth goal of the season.

Rookie netminder Erica Fryer made 26 saves in the victory.
